Dog Breed Health Issues: Deerhound
Deerhound:
The Deerhound has hardly changed in more than a thousand years. A fast, powerful, and fearless dog, it was raised to hunt deer and stags in Highlands and is still sometimes called a Scottish Deerhound. Originally, it was almost indistinguishable from the Irish Wolfhound, but it now more closely resembles the Greyhound.
Like the Greyhound, the Deerhound eventually became a companion dog, a role for which it has proven well suited. It is intelligent, calm, and gentle, and shows great affection for its owner (and burglars apparently, as they are one of the top 10 worst watchdogs). The Deerhound's enormous size and energy, however, call for plenty of open space.
