Basenji:
A fastidious dog, the Basenji cleans itself with its tongue. Groom him with a semi-hard brush; to make the coat shine, rub the dog every day wih a horsehair glove. The Basenji is one of the least intelligent dogs.

PPM (Persistent Pupillary Membrane).
Pits (colobomas) of the optic disk: Colobomas (holes or "pits" in the eye's structure) can be evident in the lens, iris, or in the eyelid. Minor cases have little or no effect on a dog's vision. In more serious cases, the sight can be severely impaired, and may even cause the retina to detach, causing blindness. Another effect of Colobomas is retinal hemorragging, which cuts off blood supply to the retina which can also cause vision loss in the dog. The only treatment is prevention; that is, selective breeding.

Abdomen:
Umbilical Hernia: Appears as a soft swelling in the umbilical area. If you notice this, consult your vet. The condition can be quite serious if the hernia is large enough.
Inguinal Hernia: This type of hernia can also be serious if it is large enough. Only your vet can make a proper diagnosis.
Gut Infection (Coliform Enteritis): Inflammation of the dog's bowel tract by certain bacteria.

Renal Tubular Dysfunction: Faulty function of part of the kidneys called the Tubules.
