Basset Hound: Personality & Health Issues
Eyes:
Droopy Lower Lids (Ectropion).
Redundant Forehead Skin:
Extra forehead skin is common in this breed and can allow the upper eyelid to droop over the eye - especially when the head is lowered.  Drooping excessive forehead skin can lead to eye disease and blindness.  Breeders of such dogs should be aware that this fashion is undesirable and breed for tighter forehead skin.
Oversized Eyelid Opening.
Extra Eyelashes.
PPM (Persistant Pupillary Membrane).
Glaucoma

Bones:
Deformed Legs.
Abnormal Neck Vertebra.

Blood:
Platelet Disorder: Occurs when platelets are not produced sufficiently in the bone marrow, which can produce bruising and potentially dangerous blot clots.  Your veterinarian can test your dog's blood for platelet disorder.
Abdomen:
Inguinal Hernia: This type of hernia can be serious if it is large enough.  Only your vet can make a proper diagnosis.
Basset Hound:
Because the Basset Hound is constantly sniffing at the ground, it can easily pick up parasites, bacteria, and certain viral diseases.  Regular stool analysis by a vet is necessary.  The ears are delicate and must be examined and cleaned regularly.  Basset Hounds are very calm and quiet indoor dogs, but do love to exercise outdoors.  They are one of the least intelligent dogs.  They also make the worst watchdog and best apartment dogs list.
