Saint Bernard: Personality & Health Issues
Saint Bernard:
The Saint Bernard is a fit, vigorous dog which needs a great deal of space and activity.  Like all large dogs, it grows rapidly, and the young Saint Bernard must have a careful diet.  A weekly brushing and occasional bath will keep its coat in good condition.  But the use of shampoo, which can destroy the coat's protective oils, should be avoided.  Saint Bernards have sensitive eyes, can develop skin problems, and face a risk of hip dysplasia.  One of the worst guard dogs.
Average Lifespan Of The Saint Bernard: 7-10 years.
Average Weight: 121-132lbs.

Redundant Forehead Skin:
Extra forehead skin is common in this breed and can allow the upper eyelid to droop over the eye - especially when the head is lowered.  Drooping excessive forehead skin can lead to eye disease and blindness.  Breeders of such dogs should be aware that this fashion is undesirable and breed for tighter forehead skin.
Redundant Facial Skin
Blood:
Hemophilia: Hemophilia is a disorder in which blood will not clot properly to aid in the healing of wounds.  A dog with a mild form or hemophilia might never even need treatment, unless excessing bleeding occurs due to trauma or surgery.  Unfortunately, dogs with severe hemophilia often die from uncontrollable bleeding problems.  Once you know your dog is affected, your vet will help you with managing this lifelong disorder.  This will include being vigilant for signs of bleeding, and occasional blood transfusions.
